Building a Transparent Supply Chain: Traceability Solutions for Fisheries Large and Small
Monday, March 7, 12:45pm – 1:45pm. Moderator: Jesse Marsh, International Seafood Sustainability Foundation

VN. Chamber Support in this ExpoThis session will discuss how the private sector can be a significant change-agent when it comes to making IUU fishing a thing of the past, and how the industry can and should be using all available tools and indicators to help create meaningful transparency in the supply chain. In doing so, we can continue to create a distinguishable market for sustainable behavior that rewards responsible fishing while obstructing the profitability of bad actors. Market influence can be a powerful driver in eliminating the illegal market, and it is crucial for our success in eradicating IUU fishing. Companies can make a choice to be transparent in their sustainability practices by undertaking 3rd party audits and also on whom they buy from based on several tools currently available — the ISSF ProActive Vessel Register (PVR); fisheries with MSC certification; participation in ISSF; participation in a fishery improvement project (FIP), and other resources. This enables all pieces of the supply chain, for large-scale and small-scale operations, to identify good actors and sustainable practices.Looking for more?
